Tiffany - Eldest Sister
"Earth Mother"
As a supporter of
Al Gore, I became familiar with his views on the environment when I read his book
Earth in the Balance. This book really opened my eyes to the issue of global warming and what needed to be done to stop it. I wanted to become part of the solution and encourage others to do the same. The movie
An Inconvenient Truth convinced me the time to act was now. Besides making changes in my life, I wanted to promote the green movement to others. Therefore, I created the Go Green 360° website to share a "greener" way of life with everyone. Here are the steps I have taken so far:
-
Educating Friends & Family - encouraged family and friends to see the movie Inconvenient Truth, continually educate my children about the climate crisis and sustainable living
-
Recycling - convinced garbage service to bring recycling back to our neighborhood
-
Hybrid Purchase - evaluating hybrid cars and looking to purchase one soon
-
Changing Light Bulbs - changed most of the light bulbs in our house
-
Telecommuting - worked from home for 9 years, that really cuts down on driving!
-
Earth Friendly Products - choose earth friendly products when I find them
-
Conserving Water - never water our lawn, purchased new washer and dryer (low water/energy efficient), looking to purchase rain barrel
-
Composting - learning about composting, looking to purchase one soon
- Reuse Products - buy most of children's clothes at resale shops and give away unwanted items
- Biodegradable Bags - use biodegradable bags for dog poo pickup, leaf collection and garbage
- Reuse Paper - print on back side of paper sheets or keep for extra note paper
-
Online Banking & Bill Pay - select to receive statements and pay bills online
-
Gardening - grow my own vegetables
-
Vote - research the candidates on environmental issues and vote for best candidate
Next Steps: Buy rain barrel, composting tumbler, hybrid car. Organize my power strip and outlet usage so I can start turning off power strips.
Heidi just gave me an IKEA bag which I'll start taking to the grocery store and cut down on all those plastic bags.
