Reserve my spot - Hybrid parking!

So i was going shopping the other day at one of my favorite stores- Ikea. Not only does it offer a plethora of green items like CFL bulbs, efficient lighting, and items made from recycled or renewable sources but it also truly accepts the green challenge of operating business is a greener way.
They have offered their large and super durable bags for purchase for
along time now and promote their customers to use them by charging for
plastic bags. I am a big fan of these bags and they normally come with me when i go grocery shopping.
Ikea's ideas include better ways to promote public transportation to and from their stores, and if you have ever gone there on an even slightly busy day, you'll see the parking lot is huge and is normally very full and chaotic. They also promote the use of hybrid vehicles in their own fleet for deliveries, etc. but also for their customers. I was happy to see 2 spots reserved only for hybrid vehicles right near the front, just beyond the handicap spots. As I took advantage of the close parking, i just had to say "I love my Prius" yet again...

Planet Green

So my cable company just started providing the Planet Green tv station. I've been waiting impatiently for it, emailed them my request to get it, and now I am ecstatic! I am planning on watching greensburg and off the grid in particular. Both seem to show great ways to go green on a larger scale, but with plenty of ideas that folks can use on a smaller scale. I look forward to the many other shows that it offers- even tho this means i'll be watching tv, but sometimes i just need that downtime to destress and turn my mind off... Hopefully this will help on the destress and maybe turn the mind on again but in a great brainstorming- how can i go greener kind of way.
I am still tempted to try an "off the grid" type situation but for now i think i'll just keep greening my home and our lives as much as we can.

Allison Garnnett is my new Hero

So my new hero is Allison Gannett. She is a great role model- into the outdoors and a long time advocate for greener living. She has turned her escape hybrid into a plug in and now gets over 100 mpg with plans to keep upgrading and get even better mileage. Just imagine if everyone had that kind of initiative! Let's hope that more of the big car makers of the world take note to all the people buying hybrids and even more importantly noticing all the people who just want better mileage from their vehicles. I recognize that not everyone needs to have a hybrid, but it does seem to be where cars are going in order to get the higher mileage. Now just imagine if one of these big car companies could take Allison's escape as a template and started mass producing them?
I'm getting off topic... back to why i'm loving Allison.... she has a solar margarita maker (what a super drink choice) and has a house made of straw... she does what she loves.. she plays hard outside but respects the planet and wants to make sure we all have a place to play in for centuries to come. so i'm trying to figure out what else i can do to help the green movement. My job is a little iffy so i think i'll start trying to see if there are any greener jobs out there for me, close to home or telecommuting. Of course i'd prefer one that actually has something to do with the environment or makes the world a better place, so we'll see what i find!

Weird weather

Is it just me or is there some weird crazy weather going on these days? I just got back from Yellowstone National Park and we had some crazy snow storms right as I was leaving. My guide mentioned that it was the snowiest it's been in 10 years. Maybe that's a good thing??

My Shiny new Prius

My latest update for green news is that i've purchased a Prius - an 08
so far i love it and now both me and my hubby get over 40 mpg! He has a honda civic hyrid and i now have my prius. Both have their pros and cons, his bigger trunk, mine hatchback. Plenty of space in both if you ask me!
