How To Go Green
Going green can be easy, its up to you how much you do. You can start with small changes like recycling all those water bottles. Then start making changes that have a more beneficial result - like cost savings from changing light bulbs to CFLs or buy a hybrid to get better MPG. You can eventually go "all in" and green your house by adding solar panels, composting toilets, and selling your car off to go completely off the grid.  We're not going to tell you to go live in the forest, that's up to you.  But there are so many little things you can do with your current lifestyle, and we make it easy by offering the how to tips here.

The Sisters top 5 Easy (or Cheap) Tips:
  1. Recycle newspapers, bottles, cans with curbside pickup or drop-off facilities
  2. Change all old light bulbs with new CFLs, once you do it, its done!
  3. Go digital by switching all bills to be strictly online only
  4. Control that thermostat - if you must use the A/C only have it on when you are home. The digital thermostats are cheap and can help you save on your heating/cooling bills.  (suggested temps are 78 for summer and 68 for winter)
  5. Grow your own veggies or buy locally
The Sisters top 5 Medium (or slightly more expensive) Tips:
  1. Collect your rain water with a Rain Barrel to water your garden or flowers. If you live in the city or a shared dwelling see if they will allow a shared barrel.
  2. Compost that yard and food waste. It takes a little more effort, but you'll have some great mulch and fertilizer for your garden.
  3. Replace your toilets with a more water efficient model
  4. Start bringing your own bags with you shopping, it takes a bit to remember to bring it with you and you might get a weird look, but you can feel good about saving those plastic bags.
  5. Start turning off those electronic items around the house. Try to organize your power strips into ones that can be turned off and ones that need to stay on. It'll be easier to get used to it if you don't have to keep reprogramming the VCR.
The Sisters top 5 Hard (or Pricey) Tips:
  1. Buy a Hybrid or electric car instead of that gas guzzler, or get rid of your car completely and take part in a ride-share, public transportation or bike/walk
  2. Change out your water heater to a tank-less water heater. It will save you energy from not having to keep heating those 30 (or more) gallons
  3. Replace dishwasher, clothes washer & dryers with water efficient machines
  4. Start reducing your footprint by taking eco-trips or giving to a carbon offset program
  5. Install solar panels and selll back your excess energy to the Power company
